01 / WHERE EACH FITS

Start with your requirements.

Bitbucket

Choose Bitbucket when Jira-linked development and the Atlassian workflow are central to your team. Evaluate Cloud and Data Center separately; their CI, AI and licensing options differ.

Golf self-hosted

Evaluate Golf self-hosted when you want to operate Forgejo and the Golf interface on Docker or Kubernetes. A Git transfer from Bitbucket does not establish equivalent Jira links, PR history, policies or pipeline behavior.

Golf on Cloudflare

Evaluate Golf on Cloudflare for its managed-service architecture, private evidence and protected previews. Native Golf does not currently provide a complete Bitbucket import or reproduce the Atlassian integration surface.

02 / CAPABILITIES AND OWNERSHIP

Compare the deployment you will run.

The Golf columns describe the developer preview. Cloudflare manages the provider services; the operator still manages Golf policy, account access, resources and recovery.

Forgejo, Golf Go/React and PostgreSQL.Operator-hosted in a Cloudflare account. Workers, Artifacts Git, D1 and Durable Objects; no Forgejo origin.
Git and collaborationGit repositories and PR review, with Jira and other Atlassian integrations.Bitbucket documentation ↗Supported Forgejo APIs, shared source/issues/PR interface and current repository permissions.Native source, issues, PRs and reviews. Current merge requires the same repository and an ancestor base.
Storage and registriesCloud packages include container/package registries; verify availability for the selected product.Bitbucket documentation ↗Forgejo owns Git; separate PostgreSQL databases hold Golf/forge state. Execution uses configured private object storage.Artifacts owns Git, D1 holds domain state, R2 retains private outputs and the managed registry holds images.
CI and runnersCloud Pipelines supports hosted/self-hosted runners. Data Center CI is configured through build integrations.Bitbucket documentation ↗Configured Docker workers and tested Actions/GitLab profiles. Full workflow compatibility is incomplete.Queues and Workflows coordinate approved Containers. Exact-source checks have hosted proof; arbitrary pipelines are unsupported.
AI and agentsCloud Rovo Dev reviews and Agentic Pipelines, including supported own-agent credentials; entitlement/setup varies.Bitbucket documentation ↗Optional configured agent accounts and scoped tasks. Each harness needs its own setup and testing.Optional Clef metadata advice and tested proposals through Workers AI/AI Gateway. Demo proposals edit one approved file.
Previews and deliveryCloud Pipelines tracks deployment environments and stages; jobs target your configured infrastructure.Bitbucket documentation ↗Available provider/profile integrations. The Helm core does not install the entire execution or delivery stack.Protected expiring R2/static and Workers for Platforms app previews. General production promotion/rollback is incomplete.
OperationsAtlassian operates Cloud. Data Center hosting and connected build infrastructure need your administration.Bitbucket documentation ↗You own images, credentials, storage, networking, upgrades and recovery. One-node core Kubernetes proof passed.Cloudflare manages provider services. You still own account policy, grants, images, resource lifecycle, costs and recovery.
Fit and current limitsA choice for Atlassian workflows. Confirm Cloud/Data Center features and current purchase eligibility.Bitbucket documentation ↗Evaluate an owned developer workflow. Full recovery, production HA and retained migration fidelity remain open.Evaluate the native Cloudflare workflow. Enrolled private access; no self-service SaaS signup. Analytics/Cron gaps remain.

Atlassian’s current notice says Bitbucket and Bamboo Data Center continue beyond March 2029, with a Hybrid License transition for existing customers. They are exceptions to the broader Data Center end-of-life announcement. Confirm purchase eligibility and your migration path with Atlassian.

See Golf’s current evidence, Kubernetes installation and Cloudflare service inventory. Full workflow parity, protected merge, production delivery and coordinated recovery remain open. Vectorize search is in development.

03 / EVALUATION

Check these before a migration.

  1. Map Bitbucket Pipelines steps to Golf’s supported execution profile; the YAML is not interchangeable.
  2. Verify the Jira and other Atlassian integrations your team actually depends on.
  3. Check Cloud/Data Center feature and purchase eligibility with Atlassian.
  4. Test identities, refs, PRs, review state, attachments, LFS and recovery before migration.

Try Golf with a disposable repository.

Explore the browser simulations or run an owned installation. Keep your existing platform until the required data and workflow checks pass.
